Pacific Avenue Safe Routes to School Project
Project Overview
Pacific Avenue is currently a two-lane street that is to be widened to a four-lane street within the existing 80- to 82-foot right-of-way. Sidewalks are provided in some areas where street widening has previously occurred, but there are substantial sections missing and they are provided not along most of the east side of the street. Gravel shoulders provide walkways in the gap areas.
Pacific Avenue provides access to four local schools (Pacific Avenue Academy of Music, Rustic Lane Elementary, Mission Middle, and Rubidoux High School) and experiences substantial walking activity during school ingress/egress periods. However, those students walk along the edge of the street where cars are driven. Enhancing safety will increase pedestrian/bike activity while area growth will increase vehicle traffic.
The Project is to modify the street to have one through lane each way, a median left-turn lane, bike lanes, on-street parking, full-length sidewalks, pedestrian flashers, and intersection enhancements to provide safer pedestrian crossings. The project will significantly improve safety and encourage more people to walk/bike.
Project Location
The Project is located on Pacific Avenue in the east-central part of the city between Mission Boulevard and 45th Street. Please visit the following link to enlarge the project map.

Latest News
Thank you to all the residents that collaborated with the City of Jurupa Valley on making the community around Pacific Avenue a safer place for residents, visitors, and businesses. On August 11 and 12, several residents attended the public forums via Zoom to discuss project details and improve the project plans. The presentation is available on this web page. The City will be submitting the application in September 2020 to receive funds from the Caltrans’ Active Transportation Program Cycle 5. Caltrans will notify the City in June 2021 if we received the funds.
