FAQs
How are residential solid waste and recycling collection rates set?
Rates are set by the contract (also known as a franchise agreement) by and between the City and Burrtec.
Why did my monthly bill increase?
Per the contract by and between the City and Burrtec, a rate increase is usually awarded in May of each year. The hauler is entitled to an inflationary increase that City Staff review for accuracy. Once the review is complete, City Staff submit the rate increase to the City Council for consideration.
The haulers are contractually entitled to modest rate increases tied to an inflation formula.
Can I call a different hauler than the one assigned to my service area?
No, the City has an exclusive franchise agreement with Burrtec Waste, which gives them the rights to provide waste and recycling collection within City-limits. This enables the City to bargain as a large collection of customers, resulting in a competitive, market-based rate.
Can I haul my own waste and recycling materials by myself?
Yes, a process for performing "self-haul" has been established by the City in conjunction with the hauler.
Residents interested in self-hauling must obtain a Self-Haul Permit(PDF, 154KB) and provide records which demonstrate their compliance with the self-haul process. Residents are encouraged to contact the City at 951-332-6464 to obtain more information about the self-haul process before applying for the self-haul permit.
Additional Services
Bulky Item Pick-Up
Burrtec Waste provides Jurupa Valley residents with curbside bulky item pickup service up to 2 times each calendar year at no charge.
Residents should submit an online service order form through Burrtec.com requesting a bulky item pickup before leaving bulky items at the curb. Burrtec Waste will collect up to 6 bulky items per request. Please provide Burrtec Waste with at least one business day advance notice, and the bulky items will be collected on your next regular collection day.
Bulky items include furniture, small household appliances, mattresses, rugs, sofas, chairs, refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters, dishwashers, e-waste (computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos), and scrap wood not exceeding one and one-half cubic yards.
Bulky items do not include construction and demolition waste, tires, or any items that cannot be handled by two persons.
Holiday Tree Collection Program
Burrtec will collect all natural undecorated trees placed at the curbside, for up to two (2) weeks after December 25th. All tinsel, ornaments, and support stands must be removed and trees over six (6) feet must be cut in half. Artificial trees are not accepted. This is a free program.
Used Battery Recycling
Residents can drop off their used/old household batteries at the Burrtec battery collecting bin located in the lobby of Jurupa Valley City Hall. Large batteries such as car batteries or mobile home batteries are not accepted.
Used Oil Collection
Recycling used motor oil conserves a natural resource and is good for the environment. Motor oil poured into the ground, into storm drains, or tossed into trash cans (even in a sealed container) can contaminate and pollute the soil, groundwater, streams, and rivers. Recycling your used motor oil reduces this pollution threat.
Burrtec will collect up to two (2) gallons of used oil from single-family residences on the customers’ regularly scheduled collection day. Customers must provide the container and provide Burrtec with advanced notice. Residents may also take used motor oil to a certified collection center.
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
Many households generate hazardous waste that is dangerous or illegal to dispose of in the trash and can also be harmful to the environment. Chemicals in illegally or improperly disposed hazardous waste can be released into the environment and contaminate our air and water.
Riverside County residents may dispose of Household Hazardous Waste at no cost every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Agua Mansa Permanent HHW Facility located at 1780 Agua Mansa Road, Jurupa Valley, CA 92509. For more information, please visit the Riverside County HHW Website.
