Construction and Demolition Waste

Construction & Demolition Waste

Construction and demolition (C&D) waste is typically generated when a building or structure is constructed or demolished. The CalGreen Building Standards Code and the City of Jurupa Valley Municipal Code requires that certain building and demolition projects recycle at least 65% of the waste generated. Typically, these waste streams are sent to a Materials Recovery Facilitie ("MRF") to be sorted and recycled.

C&D Waste Management Plan

A C&D Waste Management Plan ("WMP") identifies the types of waste that will be generated and describes how that waste will be recycled. If your project meets one of the criteria below, you will be required to submit a C&D Waste Management Plan.

  • A residential or commercial project where total valuation exceeds $25,000
  • All demolition projects requiring a demolition permit regardless of total project value
  • A City-owned or City-sponsored project where total costs are valued at $150,000 or more

Submitting a C&D Waste Management Plan

The City uses the Green Halo software platform to collect, track, and process C&D Waste Management Plans. Applicants must pay a permit fee and submit a refundable security deposit that will be returned if the project remains compliant with diversion requirements (65% or more). The graphic below describes the C&D Waste Management submittal process step-by-step.
